The Two Streams of State Nomination
There are currently two streams of the state nomination. These are the General stream and the Graduate stream. For the general stream, the applicant needs to meet certain minimum requirements for the state nomination. He/she also needs to have employment that is in the skilled migration occupation list.
The Good News
The good news is for those intending to apply through the graduate stream. For the graduate stream, you need to have studied a degree program from any WA university. If you meet the all the requirements, you can apply for WA state nomination through Graduate Stream. This makes eligible to apply for a 190 or 489 subclass visa. However, the graduate needs to have a qualification that leads to an occupation that is in the Graduate Occupation List (GOL). These occupations include different engineers, accounts, teachers and several other occupations. This is where they made the amendment by introducing a new list of occupations.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Stream
To apply for the Graduate Stream, the applicant needs to bag some requirements. The nominated occupation needs to be listed in the Graduate Occupation List. Your qualification, such as bachelors, masters or post-doctorate, should be in the same field. Also, it should be from a WA University. If you have obtained a masters or PhD qualification from a WA University then you won’t need work experience. Otherwise, this may be a requirement for state nomination. Lastly, the applicant needs to show proof of English Language.
Mutual Requirements of both Streams
There are some mutual requirements for the general and graduate stream. These include a proficiency proof in the English Language, a contract employee in Australia in a field that is at least closely related to the nominated occupation. Furthermore, if applying for visa subclass 489, you’d be required to show a contract of employment in the regional area of WA. As for the work experience requirement, you need to show a minimum of 1-year work experience in Australia. This needs to be in nominated occupation. Or, you can show at least 3 years’ overseas work experience in the nominated occupation.
