Improve PTE Listening Scores

Posted on : February 20, 2021 9:58 pm

The listening module in PTE exams can be quite tricky for those who are not natives. We will be highlighting tips, tricks, and strategies to make the listening test easy and improve PTE listening scores. We will be talking about the points which you can remember to prepare for the test properly and do not get frustrated in the exam.

PTE exams are somehow interrelated to each other and like this listening test is also close to Write from Dictation and summarize Spoken Test.

Summarize Spoken Test

In this task, you can be asked three questions. One, a text with the definition of the topic, its advantages, and the disadvantages. Second, starting with a definition and set of instructions. Third, beginning with a question and asking questions towards a specific topic that was researched.

In this test, you have to keep in mind the grammatical mistakes. Always start your sentence with capital letters and end it with a full stop. Try to use words from audio, it will improve your score.

Write from Dictation

The writing from the Dictation section is also an important and somehow complex section. This task is hard because usually, you do not remember everything we heard, and in this task, you have to write the same thing you listen to. Spelling mistakes in this section cannot be afforded and the sequence of the sentence has to be the same. Make sure to do not do grammatical mistakes.

Highlight Incorrect Words

Another task is highlighting the correct words. In this task, there is a passage on the screen and audio. The passage is written on your screen and audio is playing with it. You have to click the words which are not in the audio. Your score will be finalized on the mistakes you identified correctly.

Now, the tricky part is that this test has a negative marking every time you select the wrong answer. Take care to avoid mistakes.

Time Management

Timer in PTE exam shows on the right corner of your screen. Keep an eye on your time and manage your tasks accordingly. Many candidates fail to maintain their time and some fail in maintaining speed.

Expert Strategies

You can practice for the PTE listening test by multiple methods. You can listen to each sentence and then write it down then work on it. This can be helpful to improve PTE listening scores.

Use your breaks to review your written data then go to the next task. In Write from Dictation, write the first letter of each word and then expand the full form. This strategy is also very effective and students tend to score better in it.
