Mistakes to Avoid in PTE Speaking Test

The PTE speaking section is sometimes made students nervous especially for those who are not native speakers of English. It has been observed that most of the people do well in other sections but they lose marks in PTE speaking section. PTE is a computer-based test so you just need proper techniques to gain the highest marks on the test. There are lots of techniques that you can apply to make your English Language skills and increase your PTE score. Let’s look at some common mistakes to avoid in PTE speaking test.

Test Microphone

The best way to no get frustrated during the exam is to test your microphone before the exam starts. When you go to the center they will allow you to test your recorded voice. If you face any kind of issue then change the mic immediately. Do not start the exam before mic testing.

Microphone Position

After mic testing, the position of the mic is the important thing, it is the main thing which you should be taking care of. How do you know that will be the best position of the microphone so your voice will record properly? As per PTE’s official guidelines and testing with PTE mock test, our experts suggest that the best way to keep your mic is vertical. Students should also avoid touching the microphone as it makes unnecessary sounds which can reduce your marks.

Quick Pace

The PTE speaking test assists in two important elements: “Pronunciation” and “Oral Fluency”. Oral fluency is measured on the correct use of the English language and the flow of speaking. Pronunciation is measured in terms of clear communication which can be understood by native speakers.

Many people say that to score good marks in PTE speaking, speak quickly without proper pauses. It is a misconception that is decreasing scores of a candidate. Pearson’s official guidelines stated that an algorithm will check your pronunciation and language so you have to sound natural.

Avoid Fumbling and Be Natural

When it comes to PTE speaking test, we sometimes try to change our way of speaking which unfortunately is the biggest mistake. Due to test pressure, our gets changed and it makes us sound like a robot who is just reading instructions.

Another most important thing, avoid fumbling when you speak. Sometimes we unconsciously say words while thinking which a mistake is. The algorithm will count your extra words and reduce your score for the content.
