What is a VETASSESS Skill Assessment?
VETASSESS, or Vocational Education and Training Assessment Services, is an Australian-based organization that provides skill assessments for individuals who want to migrate to Australia or work in certain skilled occupations in the country. VETASSESS skill assessments evaluate an applicant’s qualifications and work experience to determine if they meet the Australian standards for their nominated occupation. The assessment process varies depending on the occupation, but typically involves a review of the applicant’s educational credentials, work experience, and language proficiency. VETASSESS provides a detailed report outlining the results of the assessment, which can be used to support a visa application or registration with the relevant professional body in Australia. VETASSESS skill assessments are an important step for individuals looking to work in Australia, especially those who are seeking a skilled migration visa. The assessment process ensures that applicants have the necessary qualifications and skills to work in their nominated occupation and contribute to the Australian workforce. VETASSESS offers skill assessments for a wide range of occupations, including trades, hospitality, engineering, and healthcare, among others. Overall, VETASSESS skill assessments play a critical role in facilitating the migration of skilled workers to Australia, contributing to the country’s economic growth and development.
Occupations Involved
VETASSES has divided the occupations under following 2 paths:
Relevant qualification up to the required AQF level.
At least 1 year of post-qualification experience. (Must be 20 hours per week)
Other Assessment Criteria:
If you have qualification up to the AQF level but are not highly relevant, you will be required 3 years of post-qualification experience. (You can reduce it to 2 years by having a certificate in the relevant studies and occupations)
You can also provide a pre-qualification experience of 6 years. (1 year experience has to be within the last 5 years)
Pathway 1 is for individuals who have completed an Australian apprenticeship or traineeship in their nominated occupation or have obtained an equivalent qualification from a non-Australian training institution. To be eligible for a VETASSESS skill assessment through Pathway 1 for trade occupations, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Completion of an Australian apprenticeship or traineeship in the relevant occupation OR attainment of an equivalent qualification from a non-Australian training institution.
Provision of evidence of at least 12 months of paid employment in the nominated occupation following the completion of their apprenticeship or qualification.
Provision of evidence of English language proficiency, which can be demonstrated through a valid English language test result, completion of secondary or tertiary education in English, or evidence of five years of work experience in an English-speaking environment.
Pathway 2
Pathway 2 is for individuals who have not completed an Australian apprenticeship or traineeship in their nominated occupation or have not obtained an equivalent qualification from a non-Australian training institution. To be eligible for a VETASSESS skill assessment through Pathway 2 for trade occupations, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Provision of evidence of at least 4 years of paid employment in the nominated occupation in the last 10 years, with a minimum of 12 months of paid employment in the nominated occupation in the last 24 months.
Provision of evidence of English language proficiency, which can be demonstrated through a valid English language test result, completion of secondary or tertiary education in English, or evidence of five years of work experience in an English-speaking environment.
Completion of a technical interview with a VETASSESS assessor, which may include practical tasks and theoretical questions related to the nominated occupation.
Note
It is important to note that the required documents may vary depending on the specific occupation and the pathway chosen. Applicants should carefully review the relevant document checklist on the VETASSESS website and ensure that they provide all required documents at the time of application to avoid any delays in the assessment process.
