What is Investor Visa – Subclass 891?

The Investor visa (subclass 891) is a permanent visa for individuals who have held a designated investment in Australia for at least 4 years. This visa allows the applicant to remain in Australia indefinitely and engage in business and investment activities. To be eligible for this visa, the applicant must have held a qualifying Investor (Provisional) visa (subclass 162) and must have invested at least $1.5 million AUD for the duration of their provisional visa. Additionally, the designated investment must have been held for at least 4 years. It is important to note that the main applicant can also apply for this visa if they held a designated investment in the name of their partner. The Investor visa is only available to holders of the Investor (Provisional) visa (subclass 162) and is intended for individuals who have already established a significant investment in Australia.

Requirements of Subclass 891 Visa

To be eligible to apply for an Australia investor visa subclass 891, the applicant must already hold a Subclass 162 investor (provisional) visa, which was granted based on the applicant meeting the primary criteria for that visa.
The applicant must have lived in Australia for at least 2 out of the past 4 years as the holder of an Investor Visa Subclass 162, before applying for the Investor Visa (permanent residence) subclass 891. The 2-year period does not have to be continuous, and the applicant may have traveled in and out of Australia.
The applicant, or the applicant and their partner together, must hold an investment of at least $1.5 million AUD that was made to meet the requirements of the Investor (Provisional) subclass 162 visa. The applicant should also have a genuine and realistic commitment to continue their business or investment activities in Australia.
The Department of Home Affairs will not grant the visa if the applicant or their partner has a previous history of involvement in any unacceptable activities.
The applicant and their partner applying for the visa must meet the health requirements, and any family members may also need to provide evidence of their health if required by the Department of Home Affairs.
The applicant, their partner, and any family members over the age of 16 who are applying for the visa must provide evidence of good character. Any family members who are not applying may also need to provide evidence of good character.
The applicant and any family members over the age of 18 who are applying for the visa must have read or had explained to them the “Life in Australia” book, and must sign an Australian values statement to confirm they will obey Australian laws and respect the Australian way of life.
