ACWA Skills Assessment – Community Work

Community Work Australia (formerly ACWA) is the Australian government-approved assessing authority for skilled migration in community services occupations. The skills assessment evaluates whether your qualifications, skills, and experience meet the requirements for your nominated occupation. A positive outcome is required for many skilled migration visa pathways, including General Skilled Migration, DAMA, and Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement (ACILA).

Community Work Australia Skills Assessment

How Community Work Australia assesses qualifications and experience for community services occupations in skilled migration.

Why it Matters

  • Mandatory for visa applications in assessed community work occupations.
  • Ensures your skills align with Australian community services standards.
  • Provides an official outcome letter for Expression of Interest (EOI) and visa lodgement.
  • Supports pathways to skilled migration and employment in Australia’s care and social services sector.

Assessment Scope

  • Assesses occupations including Community Worker, Youth Worker, Welfare Worker, Family Support Worker, Disability Services Officer, Residential Care Officer, Aged or Disabled Carer (ACILA), and selected DAMA-only occupations.
  • Matches your qualifications, skills, and experience to the nominated occupation’s ANZSCO description and assessment criteria.
  • Separate streams: General Skilled Visa occupations, DAMA occupations, and ACILA occupations.
  • English proficiency is required for General Skilled Visa occupations and must be proven through approved tests like IELTS, PTE, TOEFL iBT, or OET etc with the required minimum score.
  • One occupation per application (separate applications required for multiple occupations).

Community Work Australia assesses applications on a case-by-case basis against the specific criteria for each occupation. ACWA Assessment Process

Follow the official 5-step online process to submit your application.

Step 1: Check eligibility & nominate occupation

Use the eligibility checker on the website. Review the full occupation description and assessment criteria to ensure a close match with your qualifications, skills, and experience. Nominate only one occupation per application.

Step 2: Prepare your documents

Gather high-quality colour scans according to the official document checklist. Include academic qualifications, employment evidence, and English test results (where required for General Skilled occupations).

Step 3: Create a portal account

Set up an account on the Community Work Australia skills assessment portal. Migration agents use their own login and submit a signed Agent Authorisation Form.

Step 4: Submit your application

Complete the online form, upload all documents, and pay the fee. Applications are not accepted by email. Save as draft if needed, but submit complete files to avoid delays.

Step 5: Assessment & outcome

An assessment officer reviews your application. You will receive email notifications and the official outcome via the portal. If additional information is requested, respond promptly. A positive outcome provides the skills assessment letter for visa purposes.
